A clip featuring two striking “humanoid robots” showcased at the 2024 Beijing World Robot Conference has sparked widespread online debate, leaving viewers questioning whether these androids were real robots or humans in disguise. The event, which drew hundreds of international exhibitors and over a thousand special guests, became a hot topic for reasons beyond cutting-edge technology—primarily due to the lifelike appearance of these two robots.

Ex-Robot, a Chinese company known for its work in bionic humanoid robots, unveiled its latest creations at the conference. Among the various models presented, two stood out for their exceptionally attractive, doll-like features. Many people who viewed the clip online were impressed by the robots’ appearance, while others speculated that the two might be real women cosplaying as androids.

Upon closer inspection, the controversial robots exhibited some telltale signs of artificiality. Their head and limb movements appeared slightly unnatural, their eyes lacked the life one would expect from a human, and they were equipped with futuristic exoskeletons that seemed inspired by Japanese manga and anime. However, their overall appearance was so convincing that it led to considerable confusion and debate.

 

 

The truth was finally revealed when evidence surfaced on social media showing that the impressive “robots” were, in fact, women disguised as androids. A photo of one of the “robots” taking a lunch break went viral, and an X user named @froggyups shared a video showing the transformation process. The video demonstrated how the women were made to look like realistic robots using makeup, contact lenses, wigs, and intricate costumes.

This incident has not only highlighted the advancements in creating lifelike humanoid robots but also showcased how human creativity and artistry can blur the lines between reality and technology. It serves as a reminder that as AI and robotics continue to evolve, the distinction between what is real and what is artificial may become increasingly difficult to discern.
