In Guadalajara, Mexico, a family was exposed as scammers after they were caught on surveillance video planting a cockroach on their plates at Puerto Chale restaurant. The family, including a blonde woman who has since been dubbed “Lady Cucaracha” (Cockroach Lady), was seen enjoying a meal before the woman discreetly took a small container from her purse and emptied its contents— a cockroach— onto their dishes. She then used a fork to ensure the bug was visible on the plate.

Feigning disgust and outrage, the family called over a waiter and demanded that the restaurant not charge them for their meal due to the “unsanitary” discovery. Despite having a strict hygiene policy, the restaurant complied to avoid a scene. However, after the family left with all their food packed, the staff reviewed the security footage and realized the entire incident had been premeditated.

The restaurant shared the video on social media, warning others about the scam. The clip quickly went viral, leading other users to come forward with stories of the same family using similar tactics to get free meals at various restaurants in Guadalajara. The incident has drawn widespread attention, with the family, especially the matriarch, becoming notorious online for fraudulent behavior. Puerto Chale released a statement reiterating their commitment to food hygiene and expressing disappointment over being deceived in such a manner.
