Yang Xinhai, known as the Monster Killer, is one of the most infamous serial killers in Chinese history. Between 1999 and 2003, he murdered 67 people and committed 23 rapes across multiple provinces. His crimes shocked the nation and revealed flaws in rural law enforcement.

Born on July 29, 1968, in Henan Province, Yang grew up in poverty. Although he was intelligent, his introverted nature and troubled childhood led him to a life of crime. After dropping out of school at 17, he began committing petty offenses, which eventually escalated into horrific acts of violence.

Yang targeted families in isolated rural homes. Using weapons like hammers and shovels, he broke in at night to kill everyone inside. His attacks often included sexual assault. His victims ranged from children to the elderly, making his crimes even more horrifying. Because he chose his victims at random and moved frequently, police struggled to track him.

In November 2003, authorities finally arrested Yang during a routine identity check. He confessed immediately, admitting to his gruesome crimes without remorse. His trial lasted only a few weeks, and he was convicted of 67 murders. Yang was executed by firing squad in February 2004, ending his reign of terror.
