Around 1990, a young boy from Jhapa in Eastern Nepal ventured to Kathmandu to work in the Nepali carpet industry. However, his journey took an unexpected turn when he was laid off from his job due to his young age. Stranded and alone in the bustling city, he was found by some people from Northern Gorkha, who promised him work as a cowherd. He trusted their words and embarked on a two-week trek to the remote Tsum Valley. From that moment, he never returned home from the mountains.

For 40 long years, the boy, now a man, lived in isolation, far from his birthplace. Over time, he lost all memory of his exact home location and even his age. Yet, he held onto fragments of his past—vague recollections of areas around his village and the faces of his family members.

In a remarkable turn of events, Bidhya Chapagain, Co-founder of Herne Katha, discovered his story. She helped him gather his memories and trace his roots back to Jhapa. With her assistance, he finally reunited with his long-lost family, an emotional reunion captured in the Herne Katha episode titled “हराएका वर्षहरु | The Lost Years”

This incredible tale of loss, survival, and reunion serves as a testament to the enduring power of memory and the resilience of the human spirit.
